Golden Triangle Polymers is proud to support the growth and development of nonprofits in our community. We recently partnered with United Way of Orange County to host a free, public workshop to help local organizations navigate the complexities of obtaining tax-exempt status. One of the attendees, Regius Guillory, founder of FOCUS, shared his experience and the positive impact the workshop had on his organization.
FOCUS: Friends in Orange County United in Service
FOCUS is dedicated to celebrating Juneteenth and educating the community about its significance. Every year, they organize events to commemorate the holiday and raise awareness about the struggles and triumphs of African Americans.
Regius Guillory envisions a future where FOCUS expands its educational initiatives by partnering with libraries and cultural institutions to create exhibits and displays on African American history. He also hopes to bring plays and performances to the Lutcher Theater, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the community.
"We want to bring education, bring entertainment... educate the community about Juneteenth and the struggles back then and today, but also have a good time with the events," said Guillory.
FOCUS's events provide entertainment and education, fostering a deeper understanding of Juneteenth and its historical context. The organization also creates opportunities for local vendors to showcase their products and services, promoting economic growth in the community.
Our 501c3 Workshop Helps Organizations Broaden Their Reach
Guillory found the 501c3 workshop incredibly helpful in demystifying the process of filing for tax-exempt status. The expert guidance and checklists provided made the paperwork less daunting, empowering FOCUS to progress its mission.
“Obtaining tax-exempt status can be a game-changer for civic organizations. It opens the door for them to apply for charitable funding opportunities from large corporations like Golden Triangle Polymers or even with us at United Way of Orange County,” said Maureen McAllister, CEO of United Way of Orange County. Guillory expressed his gratitude for the workshop: "The 501c3 program was great! Having someone to answer questions, someone explaining what we needed to do, and providing a checklist made the process easy. The IRS makes it confusing and difficult, but the two programs offered really helped with filling out the paperwork."
With the support of the 501c3 workshop, FOCUS is looking forward to expanding its reach and impact. They are exploring opportunities to partner with West Orange Cove CISD and host events in Navy Park, offering engaging programs specifically designed for children.
At Golden Triangle Polymers, we believe in giving back to the communities where we operate. We are committed to supporting organizations like FOCUS that are making a positive difference in the lives of others. Through initiatives like our 501c3 workshop, we strive to empower local nonprofits and foster a thriving community for everyone.
